Ichigo Kurosaki is no ordinary fifteen-year-old boy; for as long as he can remember, he has always been able to easily communicate with spirits and ghosts invisible to regular people. One fateful day, the Soul Reaper (Shinigami) Rukia Kuchiki appears before him while hunting a Hollow (an evil spirit that devours human souls). During the battle with this monster, both Ichigo and Rukia are seriously injured, and the goddess is forced to transfer her powers to the boy to help him defeat the monster—resulting in Ichigo himself becoming a Soul Reaper! By doing this, however, Rukia loses all her power and now expects the newly minted Soul Reaper to continue her mission of hunting and destroying Hollows. Thus begin the exciting adventures of Ichigo and Rukia.
