Tatsumi is a country boy who arrives at the Empire's capital to enlist in the army, intending to rise quickly through the ranks, earn money, and save his village from the hunger caused by high taxes. However, upon reaching the city, he realizes that not everything is as he expected. After witnessing a horrific massacre carried out by the Empire's corrupt inhabitants and the death of his friends, he decides to join Night Raid—a division of the Revolutionary Army that opposes the Empire, handles intelligence in the capital, and carries out assassinations requested by the organization.
